Californians for Clean Energy

In 2006, RALLY was part of a team that took on California oil companies with an initiative that would have taxed oil profits to fund alternative energy and alternative fuel cars. It was the largest ballot initiative in California history. As part of the collaborative effort, we helped develop advertisements and organize events with high-profile surrogates to drive the nonpartisan message on the need to invest in renewable energy and transition out of a fossil fuel-dependent economy. Through President Clinton, Vice President Gore and then-Senator Barack Obama, the “Yes on 87” campaign garnered significant attention. Challenged to defeat the measure, the oil companies spent $120 million, dropped the price of gas by a dollar, and paid off firefighters to go on the air against us.
