Proposition 87, the largest ballot initiative in California history, would have taxed oil profits to fund alternative energy and alternative fuel cars. As part of the collaborative effort, RALLY helped develop a robust paid media strategy and organized events with high-profile surrogates.
Our work helped drive the nonpartisan message about the need to invest in renewable energy and transition out of a fossil fuel-dependent economy. Through President Clinton, Vice President Gore and then-Senator Barack Obama, the “Yes on 87” campaign garnered significant attention. Challenged to defeat the measure, the oil companies spent $120 million in opposition and ultimately killed the measure.
