RALLY partners with the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights to construct their collective narrative around county-level reinvestment campaigns and advocacy efforts. The Ella Baker Center for Human Rights is focused on advancing racial and economic justice for people of color and low-income people in California.
In 2014, voters passed Proposition 47, which reduced non-violent drug and property crime sentencing and shifted public funding away from high prison and law enforcement spending. The savings from this measure are expected to be redirected toward community-based preventative and rehabilitative programs as well as K-12 education. RALLY analyzes the current media landscape to support the Center and its site partners’ efforts for transparency and accountability of Proposition 47 funding.
