RALLY works with Parks Now, a coalition created to serve as an advocacy arm for meaningful policy reforms, to ensure that all Californians, including urban, park-poor communities, have access to quality parks. Parks Now is changing the narrative around parks and green space to include a diversity of stakeholders whose voices are important, but are often unheard. We do this by maintaining an active social media presence on Facebook and Twitter, and on the Parks Now website. Our coalition members have placed opinion pieces pushing for equity-driven reforms in Zocalo, Sacramento Bee, San Jose Mercury News , Fresno Bee, La Opinion and the SF Examiner.
We also look for innovative ways of reaching new audiences and creatively tell the story about park access challenges, including a student-produced video that documents the lack of transportation to the outdoors, featuring California Senate President Pro Tem Kevin de Leon. Through strategic communication and coalition building, we aim to support efforts that transform state parks and support local efforts throughout the state to give every resident the chance to live in a healthy community where opportunities for green space and recreation abound.
