In the middle of a polarized national discussion around gun violence in the United States, RALLY was approached by Silicon Valley’s leading tech investors and entrepreneurs to forge a new path to prevent firearms tragedies. We founded and operated the Smart Tech Challenges Foundation, the only nonprofit organization that promotes firearms safety through technology. As part of this work, we designed, launched, and managed the Smart Tech for Firearms Challenge, a $1 million contest that attracted more than 200 designs for user-authentication technology in firearms from entrepreneurs all over the world.
Through the Firearms Challenge, we funded the leading cohort of innovators developing and testing smart firearms safety technology, and leveraged the innovation sparked by the challenge to drive national news coverage. Smart firearms safety innovation has been featured in 60 Minutes, The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, the Washington Post, Fortune, CNN, Wired, To The Point, Slate, and more. Eighteen-year-old Challenge grantee Kai Kloepfer was profiled in the Webby-nominated series Luminaries, which has been viewed more than 20 million times online.
