How do you stop an oil-rich state from drilling in community backyards?
Strategy and Campaign Management
Stand Against Neighborhood Drilling – Los Angeles (STAND-L.A.) is a coalition of community members fighting to protect their health and safety from oil companies in their neighborhoods. RALLY built a communications campaign that educates Angelenos about the entrenched oil in their city by sharing the stories of impacted residents with the press, high-profile influencers, and L.A. city officials.
RALLY brought media attention to the widespread harm caused to Angelenos by oil and gas, and steered the discussion to sustainable, community-driven solutions. Along with building and maintaining a bilingual website and active social media communities for the coalition, RALLY led media relations, execution of events and demonstrations, and provided strategic guidance to the coalition since its inception.
From organizing compelling community protests to high-profile “toxic tours” led by actors Mark Ruffalo and Leonardo DiCaprio, RALLY has helped drive local and national awareness to the issue of neighborhood oil drilling. In June of 2017, the Los Angeles City Council took its first step in addressing the concerns of residents by passing a motion to study the health impacts of oil drilling near homes and schools as well as other sensitive land uses.
