How do you address gun violence without getting bogged down in the standard gun control debate?
Strategy and Campaign Management
RALLY supported the world’s leading innovators interested in advancing technological solutions to reduce gun violence by creating and managing a $1 million innovation challenge designed to make smart firearms technology a reality—the first of its kind in this space.
RALLY formed a nonprofit organization to host a groundbreaking innovation challenge judged by a panel of issue experts, technologists, and military leaders. Grants were awarded to 15 innovators who were subsequently mentored and supported, many of whom have since seen their prototypes become reality. This work created a new message frame around gun violence that circumvented traditional second amendment debates.
The challenge and its grantees have been featured in The New York Times, Business Insider, Fast Company and on 60 Minutes. Smart gun technology is now frequently discussed in the media as a viable solution to gun violence; notably, the White House and President Obama embraced the concept as part of a comprehensive violence reduction policy package.
